Oxygen cylinders - a hazardous material
Due to the pressure inside, transporting a filled oxygen cylinder is a transport of dangerous goods in accordance with legal regulations. Conventional shipping companies are therefore not an option. Only authorized persons or transport companies are allowed to transport such dangerous goods and must comply with all relevant regulations regarding storage, labeling and transport. Therefore, the delivery of oxygen cylinders containing medical oxygen is handled as a transport of dangerous goods in accordance with ADR regulations. Empty compressed gas cylinders, on the other hand, can be transported by all shipping service providers. If they are equipped with a residual pressure valve, they only contain a small amount of gas or oxygen after emptying (approximately equal to atmospheric pressure) and no longer require special transport of dangerous goods.
