Compact cylinders from 0.3 to 1 litre are particularly suitable for mobile emergency equipment. 2- and 3-litre cylinders offer a good compromise between mobility and reserve. 5- and 10-litre cylinders provide larger reserves; 50-litre cylinders are intended for appropriately planned stationary applications.

The theoretical gas reserve is derived from cylinder volume and filling pressure. A 2-litre cylinder at 200 bar contains around 400 litres of oxygen, for example, while a 10-litre cylinder contains around 2,000 litres. Actual operating time depends on the selected flow and operating conditions.

Conventional oxygen cylinders require a suitable pressure regulator. Connection, inlet pressure, flow range, tubing and patient interface must be technically compatible. In suitable combination-valve systems, pressure reduction is integrated into the valve unit.

Medical oxygen is a medicinal product. The use-by date shown on the cylinder is authoritative; for our fillings, the use-by period is generally 35 months from filling. The compressed-gas cylinder itself is also subject to separate technical inspection intervals. These two periods must be considered separately.
