Medical oxygen - Why billing as an outpatient requirement / prescription is not possible.
Can I buy or have my oxygen cylinder filled with medical oxygen on prescription?
Unfortunately not...It is unfortunate that, for economic reasons, billing for medical oxygen as a consultation requirement and prescription billing are not possible. The reimbursements provided for this by the cost carriers and health insurance companies do not fully cover the costs, which leads to financial losses. In addition, the increased bureaucratic effort represents an additional burden and makes billing uneconomical. Despite these challenges, however, there is a positive possibility: medical professionals have the option of purchasing on account. This offers at least some flexibility in terms of payment methods and makes it easier to deal with the economic aspects of practice management.
